Valdosta School Board elections

VALDOSTA — Three school board positions were up for vote during the election on Tuesday. Positions were available representing Districts 1, 2 and 3.

Results so far, prior to the provisional votes being tabulated, have the winner for District 1 as Lizzie Shumphard with 232 votes, or 63.04 percent of the votes. She defeated Edgar Cornelius Tooley, who had 134 votes, or 36.41 percent of the vote. There were two write in votes accounting for 0.54 percent of the vote for District 1.

Prior to provisional ballots, it looks like the winner for District 2 is incumbent Vannasa L. Flucas with 254 votes, which was 71.95 percent of the vote. She defeated James L. Nelson I, who received 96 votes, or 27.2 percent of the vote. There were three write in votes accounting for 0.85 percent of the vote.

Incumbent Warren "Sweet" Lee ran unopposed for the District 3 position. Lee won with 181 votes, or 96.28 percent. There were seven write in votes, accounting for 3.72 percent of the votes.
