VALDOSTA — The goal of the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast Tuesday morning was to bring together government leaders, business leaders, military leaders, ministry leaders, and education leaders, to pray for guidance during their decision making processes which influence the community.

Ricardo Vielmas, servant leader at Biz with a Good Name, partnered with Christian Business Men’s Connection (CBMC) for six months coordinating this event.

Valdosta Mayor John Gayle was the first person to speak at the event. He prayed for all elected officials.

Gayle said, “We claim to be a Christian Nation, and I still think we are, although some people deny that that is the case.”

Praying for local business leaders, Vielmas was the next speaker. Vielmas stated that prayer works, and we need it in the community. Following Velmas, Bill Cordes prayed for military leaders, Dr. Carroll Joyce prayed for ministry leaders, and Jason DeLoach prayed for educational leaders.

The keynote speaker of the event was former FBI informant Mark Whitacre. Whitacre was a high-ranking executive at the food company ADM. In the early 1990s, Whitacre partnered with the FBI to uncover ADM’s price fixing scandal.

Going undercover for three years, Whitacre gathered information, wore bulky wired recording devices, and exposed ADM’s price fixing scandal. His message provided insight into business ethics, greed, and warning signs of a business with flawed leadership.
