VSU hosts The Happening

VALDOSTA — Thursday afternoon, Valdosta State University's front lawn was packed full of students thanks to the 2013 The Happening. This year is the 21st year that VSU has held the Happening, and it was the largest turn out they have ever had.

This year's event featured over 300 vendors ranging from local boutiques, spas, restaurants and clubs.

There were also several student organizations and clubs with booths set up.

The Happening is held each year during Fall semester to welcome students back to campus. It is used as a tool to show freshman and upperclassmen all that is offered on campus and throughout the Valdosta area.

Student organizations, clubs, greek organizations, and campus facilities have booths set up to let students know what is being offered.

Robin Vickery, Director of Student Life at VSU, said of the Happening, "The main purpose of the event is to acclimate our Valdosta State students to Valdosta State University, our organizations and our departments and also the Valdosta area."

Students walking through this year's event were given gifts of cups, pens, food and informative pamphlets on the organizations. Some booths gave out sandwiches and shaved ice while others offered hand sanitizer and water bottles.

There were also dance groups, hula-hoopers and color guard members performing routines and showing off their skills, all while encouraging students to join their groups.
