VALDOSTA — The driver of a pickup truck may face charges after a Friday morning collision off Interstate 75 resulted in the death of a woman.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., a pickup truck exited I-75 southbound at Exit 2 and attempted to turn into the Flying J Travel Plaza on Bellville Road. Preliminary information indicates that, while making the turn, the truck collided with a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis which was travelling northbound on Bellville Rd, according to Sergeant L. Carl Taylor with Georgia State Patrol.

The driver of the Grand Marquis, Jessica Monk of Valdosta, was seriously injured during the crash. She was extracted from her vehicle by Lowndes County Fire and Rescue Engine 11, and was life-flighted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Shortly before 1 p.m., Monk died as the result of her injuries, said Taylor.

The driver of the truck, Jeff Cooper, 66, of Ormand Beach, Fla., was not injured in the incident and could face charges pending a complete investigation by the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team, said Taylor.
