VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University will continue their homecoming celebrations today.

Today is “Red and Black Day” and everyone in the community is encouraged to wear their VSU colors.

The annual Alumni Association golf tournament will be held at Stone Creek at 8 a.m. today. The cost is $75 per individual and $300 per team of four.

Tonight, alumni are invited to reconnect with their classmates during a reception at the college. The reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

After the alumni dinner will be the Distinguished Alumni Dinner, which begins at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. This dinner will honor a graduate from each college. The cost is $25 per person and advance registration is required.

Tonight there will also be several events downtown to celebrate homecoming. The “Blazin’ Downtown Community Throw Down,” hosted by Valdosta Main Street, will begin at 6:30 p.m. There will be performances from VSU cheerleaders and the Red Hots, music from the pep band, and a special guest appearance from Blaze. VSU merchandise will be available for purchase from The VSU Bookstore traveling store. They will also be passing out free tattoos and pom-poms for the children.

Downtown businesses and merchants will be in the spirit as well. They will be competing for the best “Blazer” decorations, as well as offering discounts to VSU students, faculty and staff.

The homecoming parade will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday. The new route begins at the Oak Street parking deck, heading south and turning right on Georgia Avenue, then right on Patterson Street, right on Brookwood Drive, and concluding at the Oak Street parking deck.
