BROOKS COUNTY —
A Brooks County man faces murder charges in the death of his three-year-old stepson, according to investigators.
Emergency medical personnel were called to 119 Soaring Heights Drive in Brooks County around 11 p.m. Sept. 11, where they found an unresponsive child, said Steve Turner, special agent in charge for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The child, Kayden Edith, age 3, was taken to South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, but was pronounced dead before midnight, he said.
The Brooks County Sheriff’s Office was contacted after a doctor at the hospital’s suspicions were aroused, Turner said.
The GBI was asked to become involved, and based on interviews and forensic information, Kevin Richardson, 25, of 119 Soaring Heights Drive, was charged with murder on Sept. 13, he said.
An autopsy has been performed but Turner said details, including cause of death, are not being released until the report has been returned. The child did have injuries, he said.
More charges are possible and the investigation is continuing, Turner said.
