South Lowndes Revival seeks community healing

VALDOSTA — The Third Annual South Lowndes Community Revival will continue the event’s aim of putting faith into action while growing to include more churches.

Like the past two years, the revival services will be held at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, led by Pastor Charles E. Vinson Sr. Mount Calvary is the host church but the revival includes congregations from Second Oak Grove Baptist Church, Francis Lake AME Church, Hosanna Baptist Church, Irvin Hill Baptist Church, Payton AME Church, all predominantly African-American churches located in the southern portion of Lowndes County.

The public is invited to attend the three-night event next week.

The revival’s scheduled speaker is Evangelist Alex Bunion of the Church at Pine Hill.

Pastor Lee Henderson of Second Oak Grove has voiced hopes that the South Lowndes Revival will awaken a spiritual healing within the community. He had cited 2 Chronicles 7:14 as a call for such healing: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

In the past, the revival has called for church leaders and members to become more involved in the Valdosta and Lowndes County community. It has called for church representatives to attend area government meetings and school board meetings then return to church to report the issues to their respective congregations. The revival calls for churches to pray for solutions and seek solutions to social woes ranging from academics to crime to employment to poverty.
