- — American Legion Post 13 Veterans Day Ceremony

Where: Martin Stadium, 1606 Norman Drive

Time: 10 a.m.

What: The ceremony will feature the reading of a proclamation from Gov. Nathan Deal, signed on Nov. 8, which recognizes veterans and their service to our country. The keynote speaker will be Army veteran and helicopter pilot Ron Borders. Event organizers will pass around poppies and the Lowndes High School Marching Band will be at the stadium to salute our veterans.

Union Cathedral Ceremony

Where: Union Cathedral, located at 1011 E. Hill Ave.

Time: 11 a.m.

What: A solemn ceremony will be held in honor of the nation’s servicemen and women.



Valdosta State Roll Call

Where: On the steps of VSU’s Student Union

Time: 8 a.m.

What: The event will include the reading of 6,625 names of individuals who lost their lives in Operation Iraqi Freedom, which claimed 4,486 lives, and Operation Enduring Freedom, which claimed 1,140 lives. The Air Force ROTC from VSU will present the colors and sing the National Anthem and the Airman Leadership School at Moody will present the famous fallen warrior display. Opening remarks will be given by VSU President Dr. Bill McKinney and at 8:30 a.m. the names will begin to be read. A moment of silence will be held at 2 p.m. and after, the names will continue to be read. The Roll Call will take approximately seven hours.
