Wreck kills one in Brooks

BROOKS COUNTY — A Georgia State Patrol trooper investigates one of the three cars involved in a fatal wreck Saturday afternoon in Brooks County. The accident took place on Ga. 133 near the inte

section with Cates Road. One car was trying to make a left turn into the Oak Ridge Lodge when it was hit from the rear, said Brooks County Sheriff Mike Dewey at the scene. The car that was turning was then hit by another car on the passenger side, he said. One person in a black car with Florida license plates was killed, Dewey said, while another eight were taken to the hospital. At least one of the other vehicles was from Brooks County, he said. Aside from the sheriff’s office, the Georgia State Patrol and the East Brooks Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident. Names were unavailable Saturday as next of kin had not been

notified.
