FBI releases more Alapaha bank robbery images

ALAPAHA — The Federal Bureau of Investigation released the following statement and images today:

UPDATE:  Bank Surveillance photos are now being provided of two armed and dangerous bank robbers re: March 7th robbery of the Bank of Alapaha, Alapaha, GA.  For correction/clarification, the one individual clearly is brandishing a long weapon, possibly a shotgun.

Acting Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Ricky Maxwell, FBI Atlanta, in conjunction with the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office and the Alapaha City Police Department, requests the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the individuals responsible for today’s armed robbery of the Bank of Alapaha, 245 N.E. Railroad Street, Alapaha, Georgia.

On Friday, March 7, 2014, at approximately 10:00 a.m., two black males dressed in black battle dress/military type uniforms entered the Bank of Alapaha (Berrien County), Georgia and, while brandishing handguns, announced a robbery.  Bank employees were forcibly removed from their offices and made to lay face down on the floor.  One of the robbers vaulted the teller counter with a handgun and an improvised explosive device (I.E.D.) that was later determined to be an inert hoax device.  After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, the robbers departed the bank.  Their getaway vehicle, a white four door sedan, was found approximately 3.5 miles away from the victim bank burned beyond recognition.

Law enforcement officials have obtained a security camera photo of a black male at a nearby gas station (Jernigans Farm Service and Supply, 9642 Hwy. 82, Alapaha, GA) that is considered a person of interest in this investigation. It is believed that two other vehicles, one described as being an older model green Ford Explorer and the other a burgundy Cadillac Escalade type SUV, were used to escape the area after torching the original getaway vehicle.

These individuals are to be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information regarding this matter should contact the FBI’s Valdosta Resident Agency at tel. (229) 247-2292, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office at tel. (229) 686-2091, or the Alapaha City Police Department at tel. (229) 445-1352.
