No fresh information on I-75 accident.

VALDOSTA — No new information is available about a major Christmas Day accident on I-75 in Lowndes County.

Holiday traffic on Interstate 75 southbound came to a stop for more than an hour Sunday night following a multi-car accident around 9 p.m.

Reports state that a number of injured, possible as many as 10, were transported to the emergency rooms at Smith Northview Hospital and South Georgia Medical Center.

No word on the extent of the injuries or the identity of those involved is available. Calls to the Georgia State Patrol and other authorities were not returned Monday..

Historically, holiday weekends result in a higher number of accidents and fatalities due to the increased traffic on the highways, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
