Moody families welcome new community center

LOWNDES COUNTY — It was gray and overcast at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Community Center for Moody Air Force Base families, but as 23rd Wing Commander Colonel Chad Franks noted as he spoke at the ribbon cutting, it was a bright morning for Moody families.

“For our military families, this is a great morning,” said Franks. “When I took command about six months ago, I had three priorities for the wing: that was mission, family and fun. This facility...hits all three of those.”

The community center was renovated at a cost of nearly $58,000, with the money coming from contributions from Taco Bell and the Armed Forces Families Foundation, as well as a contribution from Moody Family Housing.

The community center is outfitted to host a plethora of events in the years to come, featuring a full kitchen, game room, and space for meetings.

The renovations were done by Hunt Development Group, a developing and contracting company with a focus on military housing, among others. They decided to do the renovation after talking with local military families and finding that a community center was something many felt was missing from the area.

“It's definitely about our families. It's about a place where our youth and all our families can come and have some fun. And it also gives all of our airmen who are deployed who are working long days, long nights, that sense of security that their families have a place they can come and enjoy and they know they're taken care of.”
