LAKE PARK —
At its monthly meeting Tuesday night, the Lake Park City Council voted to apply for a waiver from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs in regards to a Community Development Block Grant to update Lake Park's water system.
Normally, cities applying for the grant must be able to put up $50,000, but Lake Park is applying to allow money set aside to modernize the city's water meters to substitute for the $50,000.
At 3 p.m. today, the city holds a public hearing on the CDBG grant in City Hall.
The council held a second reading for and adopted amendment 12 to Ordinance 21, raising the base water rate for the city to $13.
The city presented a plaque of appreciation to Ken Sherrill, who is stepping down as Lake Park's representative on the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission, and appointed former Lake Park mayor Walter Keith Sandlin to serve on the commission.
The council recognized new Lake Park Chamber of Commerce President Christy Brownell and approved a rodeo parade to run through Downtown Lake Park on March 22 to kick off the week of the Lake Park Rodeo.
The council also approved a beer and wine application for Dollar General, as well as a package store application for Lakes Liquors.
