Thursday Weather Closures

VALDOSTA — With temperatures remaining in the low 30s and in an attempt to keep drivers from traveling on the potentially frozen roads, several schools and businesses across the region decided to remain closed until Friday.

The Valdosta Daily Times offices will open at 10 a.m. today.

As of press time, schools that will be closed today include

Lowndes County

Valdosta City

Valdosta State University

Wiregrass Technical College

Echols County

Lanier County

Brooks County

Berrien County

Cook County

Valwood

Highland Christian

St. John’s Catholic School

Georgia Christian

Open Bible Christian School

— While Wiregrass students are not expected to report to class, faculty and staff are expected to be at work by 10 a.m. today.

— Palms Dining Center at VSU will remain open, but all other food services on campus will be closed. The Student Recreation Center will be open from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. and the Student Union will be open from noon-6 p.m. with no food service being offered there. Campus bus services at VSU are closed today and will resume Friday. Odum Library will be opened from noon-6 p.m. today. All university events, including the Employee Recognition Luncheon, are canceled and will be rescheduled.

— Georgia Military College Valdosta campus will have a delayed start today. Campus will open at 11:30 a.m. so that classes can resume at noon. Classes scheduled before noon will not meet.  

— In light of the amount of schools remaining closed, YMCA Valdosta will continue to offer daycare services throughout today. Early drop off will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the daycare will be available until 6:30 p.m. The price for daycare services for both members and non-members is set at $20 for the first child and $18 for each additional child. A mid-afternoon snack will be offered thanks to Second Harvest, but lunch will not be provided. Parents are asked to pack a lunch for their children. Parents can register their children when they are dropped off for daycare. For more information or to register your child please come by the YMCA location, 2424 Gornto Road, or call (229) 244-4646.
