VALDOSTA — Three Lowndes County teenagers were life-flighted to a burn unit in Florida Saturday night after they were burned in a fire pit, according to authorities.

The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Lowndes County Fire Rescue and emergency medical personnel responded to a call on Water Oaks Drive late Saturday, said Lt. Stryde Jones of the sheriff’s office.

Three youths — ages 12, 13 and 18 — had been on a swing when the swing broke, flinging them into a fire pit, Jones said.

The three were burned seriously enough that two were life-flighted directly from the scene, while a third was taken to South Georgia Medical Center, then life-flighted from there, according to a hospital source.

All three were sent to the burn unit at Shands Hospital in Florida, the source said.

Conditions of the three were not available at press time from Shands, nor were the names of the teenagers available.
