National champion Blazers returning home today

FLORENCE, Ala. — The Valdosta State football team claimed its third national championship since 2004, routing the Winston-Salem Rams 35-7 Saturday in the Division II National Championship Game.

The Blazers forced six Ram turnovers and used a solid performance from freshman Cedric O’Neal and quarterback Cayden Cochran to pull away for the win.

Fans are encouraged to welcome the Blazers home today around 4 p.m. at the Athletic Fieldhouse, which is located off Mary Street in Valdosta.

The team is expected to arrive home around 4 p.m., although the official time could be later. The Blazers are expected to depart from Florence at 8 a.m. Eastern time and will receive a police escort the entire way home.

They will stop and eat at a restaurant north of Macon before completing the journey home.

Fans looking to welcome the team home are asked to park at the Sustella Parking Deck, as there is limited space and parking at the fieldhouse lot.

Upon arrival, the Blazers will be able to celebrate with the fans, many of whom will have likely made the trip back from Florence themselves.
