Treehouse Resale Shop celebrates anniversary

VALDOSTA — reehouse Resale Shop celebrated its one-year anniversary Saturday.

Started last July as a non-profit retail store with the profits going towards the Langdale Hospice House and Hospice of South Georgia, the Treehouse has had a first year that overwhelmed expectations.

“We really just hoped we would be at break even for the first year,” said Susan Bowden, executive director for Langdale Hospice House.

Instead, Treehouse surpassed its first-year financial goal which will be presented to the Langdale Hospice House.

Store Manager Amber Lodge credits the success to customers and generous donations from the community.

“It’s really all about the customers,” said Lodge. “A lot of our customers have had personal experience with hospice and that’s why they choose to give to us. They want to be able to continue the hospice care their family member was given. We’ve had customers that have turned into friends and friends that are just like family. You learn their stories and you become a family.”

For their second year, Lodge and Bowden want to establish a new donation center close to Big Lots and expand the store, making room for more of the donations that have come in during the first year and those yet to come.
