An incident late Saturday caused a blackout that left much of Valdosta in the dark for several hours, according to authorities.
The incident took place near Buddy’s Home Furnishings, located at 2019 Marion Street, and involved blown transformers bringing down power lines, according to police chief Brian Childress.
Georgia Power received a call on the outage around 11:45 p.m., and about 2,200 customers were blacked out, said Brian Green, a spokesperson for the Georgia Power company.
Traffic lights were out in the area and police officers were directing traffic at intersections.
Power was restored by 4 a.m. Sunday, Green said, though a police officer could still be seen directing traffic at a location on Park Avenue where a traffic light was still out Sunday afternoon.
