VALDOSTA — As temperatures began to plummet Tuesday afternoon and the threat of ice and possible snow increased, schools across the region made decisions on whether they would remain open on Wednesday.

As of press time, schools that will be closed all day today include

ABAC included in their announcement that all dining services will remain open and that the ABAC Police Department will also operate as usual. ABAC Police Department can be reached at (229)391-5060.

Palms Dining Center at VSU will remain open, but all other food services on campus will be closed until Thursday. The Student Recreation Center will be open from 11a.m.-8p.m. and the Student Union will be open from noon-6 p.m. with no food service being offered there. Campus bus services at VSU are closed today and will resume tomorrow. Odum Library will be opened from noon-6 p.m. today.

Schools plan to reopen with normal schedules tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 30.

Georgia Military College announced that they will be closed until 3:30 p.m. today, with administrative offices being closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Classes scheduled to meet 3:50 p.m. or later will meet as scheduled today. They will be posting updates on the campus Facebook page and the GMC Valdosta website,

South Georgia Regional Library system will also be closed on Wednesday. They will resume normal operating hours on Thursday.

Due to the many school closures, YMCA Valdosta will be offering daycare services throughout the day on Wednesday. Early drop off will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the daycare will be available until 6:30 p.m.

The price for daycare services for both members and non-members is set at $20 for the first child and $18 for each additional child. A mid-afternoon snack will be offered thanks to Second Harvest, but lunch will not be provided. Parents are asked to pack a lunch for their children.

Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority will experience a delayed opening today. They will remain closed until 10 a.m.

Moody Air Force Base released a statement Tuesday saying that they will operate with mission essential personnel only beginning at 8 p.m. on Tuesday and lasting until 3 p.m. today. Additionally, all medical appointments today at the 23rd Medical Group will be canceled and rescheduled.
