The Valdosta Daily Times
The Lowndes County Sheriff’s office announced Friday afternoon that they have arrested a suspect in a recent shooting incident on North Valdosta Road.
Gerald A. Griffin II, 22, of Valdosta was arrested Friday and charged with aggravated assault in the shooting, which took place on Jan. 9.
That day, officials were called to the Flash Foods on North Valdosta Road at 3:15 p.m. following the report of multiple gunshots being fired into an occupied Dodge Charger by an unknown male in front of the Liquor Barn down the road. One of the three males in the victims’ car was wounded by gunfire, and the trio went to the Flash Foods seeking help, according to reports.
The car that the gunman was driving, a dark colored SUV, fled the scene and officials began searching for a black male with shoulder length hair, as described by witnesses, according to reports.
Investigators working the case identified Griffin as the suspect and signed a warrant for his arrest, according to a statement from the LCSO. Griffin was stopped and arrested by deputies Friday while driving on Highway 84 near James Road. He is being held in the Lowndes County Jail.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators are still trying to determine a clear motive for the attack and additional charges may be sought for Griffin and others believed to be involved.
