Lake Park parade braves the storm

LAKE PARK — Though the Lake Park Christmas Festival was canceled due to weather, the Christmas parade soldiered on as scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday.

“The area chamber put it on, and we had the city involved in it,” said Lake Park Mayor Eric Schindler. “It shows the community that we're working together as one, that we have a common goal."

Led by Santa, the parade organized at Chancy Drugs and winded its way down Lakes Boulevard, ending at the Lake Park Outlets at Mill Store Road.

Even though the clouds threatened to open at any moment, families lined the parade route, with kids waving to Santa and scrambling to grab candy.

“I think anytime a family can get out and have their children see something that brings a smile to their face, that speaks volumes. It helps lift the spirit," Schindler said.

“That's what this holiday is about. It's not about how much you can spend. People get stressed out around the holiday and it's not about that at all. It's about helping your fellow man and helping each other.”
