VALDOSTA — The Valdosta Daily Times and First State Bank’s historical picture book, “Lowndes County Memories,” is now available at The Valdosta Daily Times’ 201 N. Troup St. offices.

Those who pre-ordered the book may pick them up at the newspaper office; Times staff only needs to see a picture ID to verify the pre-paid order.

The book is also available for immediate sale for $29.95, plus tax, at The Times office; or it can be ordered for shipment by calling The Times at (229) 244-1880; or visiting

Subtitled “A Pictorial History of Lowndes County: The 1800s-1970s,” “Lowndes County Memories” is a hard-covered collection of photographs and texts submitted by Times readers and the Lowndes County Historical Society and Museum.

“‘Lowndes County Memories’ will take you on a trip back in time. Broken up into chapters, this book will walk you through all stages of the development and progression of our education systems, hospitals, churches, roads, community events, our people and so much more,” said Rachel Thrasher, Times advertising executive. “Unlike the many other books published about Lowndes County, this book was put together using the photo collections of our neighbors, friends and family. There will be photos never published and that may never be published again.”

And given the approaching season, Thrasher said the books “make great Christmas presents.”
