An early goal was not enough as Valdosta State fell 2-1 to Columbus State in non-conference women's soccer action Friday.
The Blazers (8-2-3) got on the scoreboard first with a goal less than eight minutes into the contest. Aline Friedrich sent a corner kick into the box, which Deysla Reyes collected. Reyes sent a shot past CSU goalie Meosha Hatcher at the 7:44 mark for the goal.
Columbus State (10-3-0) evened the game 12 mintues later when Kelsey Pelletier scored off a penalty kick 19:43 into the game.
The two teams played even for the next 60 minutes of action before the Cougars scored the game winner at 80:19. VSU cleared a corner kick by Columbus State, but Taylor Marks picked the headed ball and placed a shot into the back of the net to put CSU up 2-1.
Olivia Mills made five saves in the game while Hatcher made four for Columbus State. On the game, the Cougars out-shot the Blazers 15-6.
Valdosta State returns to action Tuesday, October 22 when it hosts Montevallo at 5:00 p.m. at the VSU Soccer Complex.
