Authorities have charged a teenager with arson and burglary after the Sunday morning fire at a Valdosta home, according to the Valdosta Police Department Monday.
At approximately 11:48 a.m. Sunday, the Valdosta police and fire departments responded to a structure fire at 708 Lausanne Drive. Smoke and flames were coming from the residence when officers spotted a man just outside the side door of the house.
Patrick Mack, 18, was transported to South Georgia Medical Center emergency room and treated for smoke inhalation, according to police reports. He was later released and transported to the Valdosta Police Department for questioning.
After the fire was extinguished, fire department officials advised police that the fire was started in the living room.
When the homeowner arrived on the scene, he indicated that the home had been vacant.
An arson investigator assisted in questioning Mack after he was released from the emergency room. Mack was subsequently arrested and charged with arson and burglary, according to the Valdosta Police Department.
He was transported to the Lowndes County Jail. No one else was hurt during the incident.
