Suspect found dead in Florida

Man was sought for daughter's murder

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Investigators found a vehicle Tuesday morning that contained the body of a Lowndes County man suspected of murdering his daughter and leaving her remains on the side of a dirt road outside of Jasper, Fla., according to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities found the man and his vehicle less than 24 hours after issuing a public alert for the 1997 Lincoln Continental, according to reports.

The suspect has tentatively been identified as Daniel Ovaert, 79, based on evidence found at the scene, according to reports. The car was located between Ocala and Gainesville on a stretch of Florida Highway 318, just off of Interstate 75, said Hamilton County, Fla., Sheriff J. Harrell Reid.

A power crew discovered the body of Ovaert’s daughter, 61-year-old Pamela Provenzano, Monday along a dirt road outside of Jasper, Fla. She had been shot in the head, said Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine.

During the initial investigation, authorities learned that Provenzano had possibly come to visit her father, Ovaert, who lived in Lowndes County, which led to the cooperative efforts between the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Officials began investigating the case as a

murder, and believe Provenzano’s father killed her, fled the scene, and then killed himself, according to sheriff’s deputies. All law enforcement personnel in Florida and Georgia were on alert for the vehicle and Ovaert before his body was found Tuesday.

The investigation into the deaths is continuing by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Persons who have information regarding this investigation should call the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, (386) 792-1001; or the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, (229) 671-2985.
