Truck fire injures driver

Southbound traffic snarled on interstate

-- — Early Sunday afternoon, a semi-truck caught fire on Interstate 75 south of Exit 5, snarling traffic for hours as authorities cleaned up the scene. Initial reports are that the brakes on the truck may have caught fire, and the driver was reportedly injured when a tire exploded as he attempted to put out the fire. He was taken to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment. The truck was

reportedly carrying a load of kegs full of beer, and the kegs erupted as they caught fire. Cleanup crews from area fire stations and Georgia State Patrol officers were on the scene until Sunday evening, and southbound traffic was finally allowed through the area as lanes began to reopen. The Times will have more information on the accident in Tuesday's edition.
