One dies in Brooks wreck

Driver suffers minor injuries

VALDOSTA — A passenger was killed and the driver suffered minor injuries during a single-vehicle crash Saturday morning in east Brooks County, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The driver lost control of his 1999 Chevy S-10 pickup truck at approximately 2:50 a.m. Saturday on a stretch of Studstill Road, near Troupville Road in Brooks County, said Sgt. Carl Taylor of the Georgia State Patrol’s Post 13.

“The truck ran off of the roadway and struck an embankment on the passenger side, and the passenger died as a result,” said Taylor.

Russell Walker, 34, perished as a result of the accident, and 31-year-old Thomas Hudchinson’s minor injuries were treated at South Georgia Medical Center, Taylor said. The truck has been impounded, according to Taylor who said Monday the investigation into the accident was on-going.

The GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team unit is assisting in the investigation.
