Abduction foiled

VALDOSTA — A mother and child from the Chamblee area who were abducted Monday were found alive and well in Lowndes County, and two men were arrested in the case, according to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.

Isabel Godinez Lopez and her 5-year-old daughter, Yoselin Michelle Coc Godinez, were abducted from their home in Chamblee by Lopez’s ex-husband around 11:50 a.m., according to a press release from the Chamblee Police Department. They were believed to be heading for the Miami area in a red/burgundy Ford Ranger, the release said.

Initial reports indicated that Lopez and her daughter were abducted by three men, according to the press release.

A statewide Levi’s Call alert was issued. A Georgia State Patrol trooper in Lowndes County spotted the car and called in the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office to assist, said Capt. Wanda Edwards of the sheriff’s office.

Two Hispanic males were arrested and being held in the Lowndes County Jail for Chamblee police, she said. Lopez and her daughter were unharmed and on their way home, Edwards said.

The names of the suspects and charges were not available at press time.
