Lakeland woman killed in car wreck

HOMERVILLE — A Lakeland resident and senior airman in the Air National Guard was killed Saturday morning when her 2006 Toyota Scion collided with a 1998 Toyota 4Runner at the intersection of U.S. Highway 441 and Georgia 122 near Homerville. The accident happened around 5:45 a.m., said Greg Rogers, a trooper with the Georgia State Patrol Waycross office.

The victim, 19-year-old Ashley Brown, was in military uniform traveling with her brother when she failed to yield for a stop sign in the intersection, Rogers said. Her brother was ejected from the vehicle and transported to an area hospital, Rogers said. The driver of the other vehicle had some injuries, but is believed to be doing fine, he said. He said the accident report indicates Brown slowed down at the intersection before crossing without stopping. A blind spot on the vehicle may have contributed to the accident, Rogers said. Brown was wearing a seatbelt, he said.

Rogers said he believed Brown and Hill were headed from Lakeland to an Air National Guard drill in Brunswick when the accident occurred.
