Motorcade to brighten veterans’ Christmas

HAHIRA — A motorcade of volunteers will depart from the Hahira Police Department at 8 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20., and travel to the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Lake City, Fla.

Both volunteers and donations are needed for this event.

Tim Coombs, owner of Coombs Heating and Air, is one of the event’s organizers. Coombs and others are planning to make this an annual event with the goal to begin collecting items on Veterans Day in 2014, and deliver them the week of Christmas to boost the spirits of veterans during the holiday season.

Some of the requested items are:

• sugar-free candy

• razors

• three-pound cans of coffee

• three-in-one body wash

• denture adhesive

• reading glasses

• tooth brushes and tooth paste

• lap robes

• monetary donations also accepted

Sites collecting donations are Hahira City Hall, Church Street Coffee, Georgia Power Hahira, Coombs Heating and Air, Dollar General Hahira, Chancy Drugs Hahira and Valdosta, Students Veterans Affairs Office Valdosta, Down Home Pizza Hahira, Quinn Construction Office, Valdosta Inn & Suites, Hahira United Methodist Church, Fellowship Baptist Church.
