Soldier from Sparks killed in Iraq



FORT BENNING (AP) — The Department of Defense says a soldier from Georgia has been killed while fighting in Iraq.

The military said late Monday that 25-year-old Sgt. Briand T. Williams, of Sparks, died Sunday from injuries he suffered when insurgents attacked his unit in Numaniyah, Iraq.

Williams was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Benning, according to the DoD.

No other information was available.
