City announces holiday sanitation schedule

The City of Valdosta Public Works Department will be closed on Thursday in observance of Thanksgiving Day. The Sanitation Division will collect residential garbage only on Thanksgiving Day. Citizens should place their green rollouts at the curbside by 6 a.m. on this day to ensure their garbage is collected. Sanitation pick up services for recyclables and yard waste will not be available on Nov. 26. Recyclable and yard waste collection for Thursday and Friday routes will resume on Friday, Nov. 27.

Housing Fair

Housing Resource Solutions, in collaboration with community partners, will host a workforce housing fair on Saturday from 9 a.m.-Noon at the Community Center 215 Randall St., Hahira. The free housing fair will provide citizens information on obtaining an affordable mortgage, credit repair, first-time homebuyer down payment programs and incentives (including the first-time homebuyer tax credit), affordable new construction housing and foreclosure prevention information. Funds earmarked for motorcycle safety program

The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) announced recently the receipt of a grant totaling $95,460 earmarked for its motorcycle safety training known as the Georgia Motorcycle Safety Program (GMSP). The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) approved the funding to be used for increasing the awareness of motorists and motorcyclists on sharing the road responsibly and safely. The funds will be used to purchase much-needed equipment to support all of GMSP’s efforts.
