City kicks off holiday season with tree lighting

VALDOSTA — City of Valdosta Mayor John J. Fretti and his family will officially kick off the holiday season with the traditional lighting of the city’s Christmas tree at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at City Hall, 216 E. Central Ave.

City employees from the Fire, Public Works, and Engineering departments decorated City Hall and assembled the 30-foot tree located on the City Hall front lawn. The community is invited to join the mayor and his family, the Valdosta City Council and city employees for light refreshments following the lighting ceremony.

This year’s participants will be able to enjoy Christmas music sung by the children in the Moody Air Force Base Youth Programs. Spouses of deployed military personnel are invited to attend the city festivities as the mayor’s personal guests. City employees and other community participants will be able to sign greeting cards that will be mailed to deployed Moody military personnel in time for the Christmas holiday.
