Feeding the hungry
Organizations offer free meals, transportation for Thanksgiving

VALDOSTA — Members of Sons of Solomon Lodge No. 151 and Electa Chapter No. 323 will host A Day of Caring, Sharing and Giving from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at River Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2884 James Road.

Sons of Solomon Grandmaster Eddie L. Koonce said there will be plenty of food for everyone to enjoy. The menu features turkey and dressing, giblet gravy, cranberry sauce, collard greens, green beans with potatoes, cornbread muffins, sweet potato pie, chicken and rice, potato salad, cake and cupcakes.

“We want to feed anyone who needs or wants a good, hot, homecooked meal on Thanksgiving,” he said.

Transportation will be provided.

Vans will pick up anyone gathered in the parking lots of the Salvation Army and the Mildred Hunter Community Center or on Magnolia Street next to St. John A.M.E. Church at 9 a.m.

Also, showers, free haircuts and clean clothes will be available at the Salvation Army, Koonce said.

Volunteers and donations are always welcome.

Sam’s Bar-B-Q & Catering

Sam Watts and crew at Sam’s Bar-B-Q & Catering, 414 E. Hill Ave., will be grilling and selling whole Boston butts for $25 on Tuesday and Wednesday. Proceeds will be used to feed the hungry during the holiday season.

From 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Sam’s Bar-B-Q & Catering will host its third annual Thanksgiving Day Harvest, providing a traditional holiday meal to anyone who wants or needs one.

Volunteers are always welcome.
