VALDOSTA — The City of Valdosta is preparing to master plan the Bray property off Inner Perimeter Road purchased in recent years, and officials have asked the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority to provide a delegate to be a part of the process.
Authority Chairman Russ Mast said it was good timing for parks and recreation as the board met recently to update its master plan for facilities and future plans for renovations and additions.
The board set a number of goals for the next 18 months as the year-old authority continues to define itself and the future of parks and recreation for all of Lowndes County. Among the goals are a soccer complex, completion of the tennis complex, building partnerships with other organizations, and defining programs that should or should not be implemented by the authority.
In other business, Executive Director Eric Hahn presented an update on current projects, including the McKey Park Tennis Center, which he said is on schedule to be completed in the five-month time frame allotted with a projected completion time of April 2010.
In addition, the new disc golf course at Freedom Park is being widely used, with a tournament planned for today. Also, the Home for the Holidays decorating contest will be starting immediately following Thanksgiving.
After a discussion on the feasibility of transferring outdated and unused property, such as lighting to a non-profit organization, the board voted to enter executive session.
