Veterans Day Activities

• The Lowndes Veterans Council will present its annual Veterans Day program from 10-11 a.m. today at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. In case of rain, the event will be held at the Valdosta High School Performing Arts Center.

• The event features speakers representing the City of Valdosta, Lowndes County and Moody Air Force Base. There will be an Honor Guard from Moody Air Force Base, the Lowndes High Air Force Junior ROTC, the Valdosta High Navy Junior ROTC and the Valdosta State University ROTC. Immediately after the program, American Legion Post 13, which is located at 1301 Williams St., will host a free BBQ luncheon.

For more information contact American Legion 13 Post Commander Ed Kent at (229) 333-2178 or American Legion Post 13 (229) 242-7616.

There will be a second Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. today at Southside Recreation Center, 604 S. Oak St. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call (229) 269-7055.

• Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar locations in the area are inviting all U.S. veterans and active duty military personnel to come in and pull up a chair at their “favorite neighborhood restaurant” for a “delicious” entree and heartfelt “thanks” this Veterans Day. Veterans and those on active duty with proof of U.S. military service will be able to select one complimentary entrée from a selection of favorites. Traditional sides that come with each entrée will be served “on the house.”
