Another Viking point of pride is the new bronze Viking statue donated by the Class of 2009. Each year at Lowndes High School, the graduating class donates a gift to their alma mater. The Class of 2009 purchased this statue from a sculptor in California. The Viking is mounted on a display stand at the north entry to the home side of Martin Stadium. It will stand there for football games and future events. Statistically speaking, the statue, composed of cultured marble, weighs 1,300 pounds, stands 7 feet tall, sports a stainless steel sword, a Viking shield and belt with the letter ‘L’ for Lowndes, and a Viking horn. The Class of 2009 includes President Katie Shipman, Vice-President Taylor Smith, Secretary Stephanie Hancock, and Treasurer Emily Backes. Sponsors for the class were teachers Nicki Hughes and Jodi Scruggs.
