VALDOSTA — Several months ago, Vicki Weaver’s vision came to fruition. Weaver is a legal assistant at the Coleman Talley law firm and coordinator of the company’s Relay For Life team.

Weaver and other Coleman Talley staff worked to sell barbecue chicken dinners to raise money for the 2010 Relay For Life. They raised $6,000 with all proceeds benefiting Relay For Life.

The fund-raiser was conducted in memory of one of their partners’ mothers. Mary Jean Holland, the mother of Attorney Bill Holland, passed away this year from cancer.

“Coleman Talley is honored to assist the American Cancer Society. Cancer affects everyone. You can’t find anyone that has not been affected, in some way, by cancer,” says Holland.

The American Cancer Society supports programs and services in the Valdosta area, such as, Look Good Feel Better, Road to Recovery, and Reach to Recovery, and Freshstart Smoking Cessation series just to name a few.

Each year, Relay For Life brings more than 3.5 million people from 4,900 communities across the country together to celebrate the lives of all those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too many lives each year.

Relay For Life is a fun-filled, overnight event that empowers everyone to help fight cancer by raising money and awareness to support the American Cancer Society's lifesaving mission. Teams of men, women, and even children camp out, grill out and take turns walking around the track. The Coleman Talley team is headed by the Valdosta office and consists of attorneys and staff, as well as their families and friends.

Relay For Life is scheduled to take place April 30-May 1 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. at the track at Valdosta Middle School.
