With 67.09 percent of the total vote, or 53 votes, Terry C. Benjamin defeated Wilmon J. Stanley for the Hahira City Council District 1 seat.

“I'm glad the citizens of District 1 in Hahira saw fit to let me serve them for another four years,” he said.

A lifelong resident of Hahira, Benjamin has already served eight years on the Hahira City Council. In the next four years, he plans to address the need for more infrastructure improvements, promote small business and other projects.

“We have made progress in this area, but I think we could do more to update our water and sewer systems,” he said. “Hahira has a lovely downtown and I think we could do more to promote local business owners. Also, we have potential for new business growth at our Industrial Park and exit area that I think could be fostered.”

Stanley received 32.91 percent of the total vote, or 26 votes.

With 64.21 percent of the total vote, or 61 votes, Rose Adams was re-elected to the Hahira City Council District 4 seat, defeating M.C. Nelson and Thomas Simpson.

Over the next four years, Adams plans to focus on continuing the maintenance and expansion of the city’s infrastructure, supporting downtown businesses and merchants and supporting the Hahira Gateway Development, assuring that the project meets the city’s development standards and retains the hometown character.

Nelson received 18.95 percent of the total vote, or 18 votes.

Simpson received 16.84 percent of the total vote, or 16 votes.

Military, absentee, and provisional ballots remain outstanding.

Tuesday’s election results will remain unofficial until certified by the Lowndes County Board of Elections Friday.
