ELECTIONS: Board of Assessors, Post 3

• David DeMersseman

Age: 53

Party: Republican

Employment: Insurance agent

Why are you running for this office?

I served in this office in from 1993 to 2000. When I left thought office was in pretty good shape and I went out to earn some money. While I was in there went to the University of Georgia and took classes and passed the test to get certified appraiser three designation. I had a lot of people tell me that values are way out of uniformity again and I’ve got the time and since I’m already certified I thought I would try it again.

What qualifications do you bring to the position?

I’m a certified appraiser three and I have 32 years as a high school basketball official. With that you learn to be fair and impartial and learn to see both sides of the issue.

Do you think elected assessors should have to follow the same mandates on education and qualifications as the appointed ones do?

That’s a no-brainer, of course. My position is either appoint us or make us have the same qualifications as appointed ones. Appointed ones have to go to a 40 hour class every two years. When I was in there I took a 40 hour class every year.
