QUITMAN — Authorities are investigating the slaying of an 87-year-old man who was found dead in his Quitman home over the weekend.
The body of Daniel Jones was discovered by a family member Saturday morning at his residence located on Highland Avenue, according to Quitman Police Chief Wesley Ross. Quitman police were called to the scene and determined that foul play was involved, Ross said.
“After foul play was determined, members of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation were dispatched to process the scene,” Ross said.
The victim’s body has been transported to the GBI crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy. Authorities expect to receive a cause of death soon.
“We are currently investigating the incident but have very few leads at this time,” Ross said. “We ask anyone in the community to come forward if they have information.”
