Two arrested for drug-related crimes
Agents: Statenville man had nearly one pound of packaged marijuana

STATENVILLE — Two area residents were recently taken into custody and charged with drug-related crimes.

Around 8 p.m. on Sept. 22, agents with the South Georgia Drug Task Force, along with deputies from the Echols County Sheriff’s Office, apprehended a Statenville man after it was discovered that he had approximately one pound of individually packaged marijuana in his possession, said Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jamy Steinberg in a press release.

Brandon T. Hughes, born in 1985, of Statenville, is charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, according to the release.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 18, a Berrien County resident was apprehended by South Georgia Drug Task Force agents, Berrien County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Nashville Police Department officers, and other law enforcement following a joint road block effort, Steinberg reported.

Christopher D. Simmons, born in 1971, of Nashville, is charged with possession of marijuana, according to a press release.

No other information was known at press time.
