By Dean Poling
VALDOSTA — An undercover operation led to the arrest of four men on drug charges this week. The suspects include two Moody Air Force Base airmen, according to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Friday.
Earlier this month, the sheriff’s office’s narcotics division received information concerning drug transactions, said Lt. Jack Winningham.
About two weeks ago, the division used this information to assign an undercover officer to make contact. The officer attempted purchasing narcotics during the undercover operation.
“Investigators conducted an undercover operation on Wednesday ... on Gornto Road which led them to the three different residences in Lowndes County,” said Lt. Stryde Jones with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
Of these three residences, two required search warrants; one search was consensual, Winningham said.
Following these searches, authorities recovered several weapons and more than 650 grams of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $6,500, Jones said.
Anthony Sunny Manokoune, 22, of 4293 Shelby Lane, Valdosta, is charged with felony sale of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, use of communication device to violate the Georgia Controlled Substance Act and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, according to the sheriff’s office.
Austin B. Woodall, 19, of 1815 Plum St., Remerton, is charged with felony distribution of marijuana and possession of marijuana, according to the sheriff’s office.
Everett Chatman, 25, 3620 Beulah Circle, Valdosta, is a staff sergeant with the 347th Operations Support Squadron at Moody Air Force Base. Chatman is charged with misdemeanor obstruction, felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of tools during the commission of a crime, according to the sheriff’s office.
Christopher Moore Jr., 24, of 4293 Shelby Lane, Valdosta, is a senior airman with the 723rd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Moody Air Force Base. He is charged with conspiracy to distribute marijuana, according to the sheriff’s office.
No other information was known at press time.
