RAY CITY — A two-mile walk and gospel concert is set to take place Saturday as part of Ray City’s centennial celebration. It will set the stage for the small town’s “final blowout,” said Nina Harrell, chairperson of Ray City’s Centennial Committee.

“Every month we do something,” Harrell said. “Next month is our big blowout. October ends it all.”

Harrell said the two-mile walk will start on the corner of Pauline and Johnson streets and proceed to the Lakeland Highway. Free T-shirts will be provided to participants, who can either register by calling City Hall at (229) 455-2501 or just show up at 9:30 a.m. at the walk site.

The Centennial Committee will provide refreshments.

“We are anticipating a great turnout,” Harrell said.

Starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, there will be a gospel concert in Ray City Park featuring multiple artists. Harrell said Christian comedian Cousin Arthur will lead off the festivities.

Musical acts will include local pianist Jeff Pepper, who Harrell said plays piano and sings “Amazing Grace” like Jerry Lee Lewis; The Faithful Servants of Adel, playing contemporary Christian music; Bluegrass musician Junior Palmer; local musical duo Daphne Cooper and Mamie Stalvey; and Buck Warren, who Harrell said is known for his rendition of “Long Black Train.”

Participants are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets for the concert. Stalvey Concessions will be on hand, providing funnel cakes, fresh lemonade and sweet tea.

The gospel concert will set the stage for October’s big Colt Ford concert in Ray City Park, Harrell said. The October blowout celebration will also feature performances by The River and The Southern Band. The Hooters girls will be there, along with show cars and show boats, she said.

Fifty all-access passes will be available for the bands for $50, she said. Ticket prices will be $15 in advance, and $20 at the gate.

The Centennial Committee will also host their big sponsors dinner that evening in the Seniors Building at Ray City Park.
