VALDOSTA — Valwood School celebrates homecoming this week with a variety of activities aimed at uniting students at all grade levels.

Pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade students kicked off the week with a pajama day on Monday, and teachers and students got into Tuesday’s Retro Day theme.

While the week does not have an overarching theme, the Upper School Student Council does switch up the different themes for each day every year, Julie Guilliams, director of College Guidance said. Monday is a school favorite with pajama day. On every other Monday of the school year, the female students are required to wear skirts and dresses, while the males wear shirts and ties, she said.

The Lower School will participate in Thursday and Friday’s themes, which are Patriotic Day and Valwood Spirit Day, respectively.

In honor of Sept. 11, students are encouraged to show their patriotism on Thursday, Guilliams said.

Today, students are dressed as their favorite movie characters, Guilliams said.

On Friday, with everybody dressed in their navy blue and orange, Valwood School will host a pep rally at 9:25 a.m. The Eager Sports Center will be open to both parents and students interested in showing their school spirit and finding out the name of the homecoming king.

Friday night, during Valwood School’s football game against Robert Toombs Christian Academy, the homecoming queen will be crowned during half-time by last year’s winner, Maggie Karras.

Before the game, alumni interested in meeting old friends and chowing down on barbecue can meet at the dining hall at 6 p.m. for the Valwood School Alumni Reunion. Plates will be $7.50, and attendants will receive a complimentary game ticket, Guilliams said.

Tickets for the homecoming dance can be purchased at the door from 8-11 p.m. on Saturday at the dining hall.

RSVP tickets for the Alumni Reunion can be purchased early by calling Laura Elliott, director of Development, at 242-8491.
