UPDATE: Police investigate three shootings

By Dean Poling

VALDOSTA _ Three apparently unrelated shooting incidents led to one death and three injuries Sunday morning.

_ One man is dead and a second injured after a shooting incident in the early morning hours Sunday.

Jermaine Antonio Mitchell was shot to death and was dead at the scene, said Valdosta Police Detective Cmdr. Eugene Bell.

Desmond Jones was also shot and taken to an area hospital for treatment, the commander said. Both men are believed to be in their 20s, Bell said.

Bell said the incident happened at a Melody Lane apartment complex.

Valdosta police were dispatched to the scene in the early morning hours Sunday. One man was dead, another injured. Bell arrived at the scene shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday.

No arrests had been made by Sunday afternoon. Police are investigating several leads, seeking possible suspects.

_ A Valdosta woman was injured outside of a South Patterson Street nightclub at about 2 a.m. Sunday, according to Valdosta police. An argument between several males led to gunshots. The woman was not involved in the argument but was struck by a bullet. No arrest had been made Sunday afternoon.

_ A 24-year-old man arrived at South Georgia Medical Center with a gunshot wound at 2:35 a.m. Sunday, according to Valdosta police. He reported being in a Lake Park Road business parking lot with several people when he was shot. No arrest had been made Sunday afternoon.

Valdosta police continue investigating all three cases. See Monday editions of The Valdosta Daily Times for more on all three cases.
