VALDOSTA — The Valdosta Daily Times is sponsoring a campaign geared toward stimulating the economy and helping area businesses generate more revenue.
It’s called Spend $20 on the 20th.
This Saturday, Lowndes County residents, as well as those from the surrounding areas, are asked to spend $20 at an area business.
Inside Saturday’s edition of The Times will be advertisements from retailers who are participating in the campaign, as well as at least one suggested item that costs $20 or less at each business.
“This is a way for us to help local retailers promote smaller-priced items and help boost the local economy,” said Julie Killion, The Valdosta Daily Times’ advertising director. “We are also allowing the retailers to run the ads on the specified pages for only $20.”
The Tin Bucket in Hahira is among the stores that will participate in the campaign. The store plans to promote SwitchFlops and other items priced under $20 at the store.
With velcro interchangeable straps, SwitchFlops allow wearers to change the look of their flip flops.
The removable straps for SwitchFlops are usually sold for $12 at The Tin Bucket. However, the store will sell them at two for $20 Saturday.
Killion said the idea for Spend $20 on the 20th originated in Ohio. Other Community Newspaper Holdings newspapers, she added, have sponsored the campaign in cities in Oklahoma and Texas.
“We are not asking the community to go out and go broke trying to help our businesses,” Killion said. “We only ask that they spend $20.” The Times will hold $20 on the 20th again in July and August.
