Last month came to a close with the arrests of 11 people on various drug charges as the result of investigations by the South Georgia Drug Task Force.
On May 20, South Georgia Drug Task Force agents and Adel police officers arrested Shanteria Latrice Walton of Sparks for theft by taking after she allegedly stole 267 Loratab prescription pills from Chancy Drugs in Adel, according to a press release from the task force.
Walton was an employee at the drug store where the pills were reportedly stolen. Her arrest is part of an ongoing investigation by the South Georgia Drug Task Force and Adel Police Department, and additional charges are pending. Task force agents were assisted by the Sparks Police Department and Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 11:30 a.m. on May 24, the South Georgia Drug Task Force was requested to assist the Echols County Sheriff’s Office during a vehicle chase in Echols County. The vehicle was eventually stopped and three suspects were apprehended.
Brett Tucker, 18, of Homerville, Charles Pitts, 22, of Homerville, and a juvenile were charged with possession of anhydrous ammonia after a cylinder containing the product was found in the backseat of the pickup truck they were driving, the release stated.
Anhydrous ammonia is a component commonly used in the making of methamphetamine.
Pitts, who was reportedly driving the vehicle, was also charged with traffic-related charges by the Echols County Sheriff’s Office. Pitts and Tucker were transported to the Lowndes County Jail and the juvenile was taken to a juvenile detention facility.
Tucker was later charged in another South Georgia Drug Task Force investigation in Clinch County for possession of anhydrous ammonia, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and possession of pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture methamphetamine.
The Georgia Department of Corrections Special Operations K-9 Unit and Department of Natural Resources assisted in the suspects’ arrests.
On May 27, the South Georgia Drug Task Force was requested to assist the Cook County Sheriff’s Office with an investigation that stemmed from a traffic stop by deputies. Ronald E. Crowell, 58, was arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana after marijuana was found in the 2008 Cadillac Escalade rental vehicle he was driving, the release stated. Crowell was not listed as an approved driver on the rental agreement, the release further stated.
Crowell had $9,990 in cash that was reportedly concealed in the glove compartment wrapped in rubber bands. Based on interviews by agents and sheriff’s investigators, the money was seized for further investigation. Crowell was transported to the Cook County Jail and later bonded out on his charges, the release stated.
Around 9 p.m. the same day, in an unrelated incident, South Georgia Drug Task Force agents and Homerville police arrested George Joyce, 29, for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and expired registration, the release stated.
On May 29, South Georgia Drug Task Force agents and Adel police arrested Derrick Brandon Washington, 26, on outstanding arrest warrants for the sale of ecstasy.
About 9:30 p.m. the same day, in an unrelated incident, task force agents received information that a vehicle occupied by several individuals was traveling on the Cogdell Highway and contained items associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine. A vehicle that matched the description was located by task force agents and Clinch County Sheriff’s Office deputies and stopped after it failed to maintain lane.
Daniel Martin, 32, Crystal Graddy, 26, Brett Tucker, 18, and Jonathan Brock Graddy, 23, were all arrested for possession of anhydrous ammonia, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and possession of pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture methamphetamine, the release stated.
