ECHOLS COUNTY — An Echols County man has been taken into custody after authorities found marijuana growing behind his residence.

Echols County Sheriff Randy Courson recently received an anonymous tip that someone was manufacturing illegal drugs at their home. Courson then alerted the agents from the South Georgia Drug Task Force.

Upon receiving the information, task force agents were dispatched to the home of Christopher Scott Councillor, located on Izell Lane. Agents were given consent to search the residence. The search led to the recovery of two marijuana plants, which were growing in a 5-gallon plastic bucket behind the home.

After discovering the plants, Councillor was arrested by Courson and task force agents and charged with manufacturing marijuana.

The South Georgia Drug Task Force recognized the Echols County Sheriff’s Department and Georgia Department of Natural Resources for their joint efforts in the investigation and arrest.

To report any drug information in the Echols County area, please contact the task force at (229) 482-3109 or sgadtf@alltel.net
