VALDOSTA

Lowndes County commissioners handled several matters Tuesday evening during regular session.

Phase II of the Lowndes County Jail expansion project was approved 2-1, with Commissioner Edgar Roberts providing the dissenting vote.

The special tax district for Northlake Subdivision Section IX located on North Valdosta Road was unanimously approved.

In the request to abandon a portion of Indian Ford Road, a study concluded that the section of the county road system has ceased to be used by the public to the extent that no substantial public purpose is served by it.

Two bridges will be replaced on Skipper Bridge Road after being unanimously approved to Southern Concrete for $372,987.36, including the demolition of the two existing bridges, installation of the new bridges, and asphalt and paving between the new bridges. The construction will begin on June 1 and is slated for completion on Aug. 1.

For Consideration

— Lake Julian Trust Indenture; unanimously approved.

— Utility Rate Study from BP Barber; tabled.

— Alltel Air Cards for Mobile Data Terminals; unanimously approved.
